BCPOA history
In October, 1990, the Beaver Creek Property Owners Association was founded. Its initial purpose was to address issues, which detrimentally affected Beaver Creek property owners, namely the use of open space lands surrounding Beaver Creek and the construction of a gondola proposed to be built near Village Road and the Beaver Creek golf course. Subsequent to its formation, the BPCOA successfully fought the proposed gondola site and began examining Vail Resorts' intent to rezone open spaces as buildable residential sites.
For the next three years, the BPCOA continued negotiations with Vail Resorts and its subsequent purchaser, the Apollo Group, regarding rezoning of open space lands. In January 1994, the Beaver Creek Resort Agreement of 1994 was executed. In essence, the Agreement allowed for the rezoning of the Strawberry Park and Bachelor Gulch areas to allow development by Vail Resorts in exchange for the elimination of further development in Beaver Creek, upgrades to the ski mountain and its facilities, the promise of a second portal onto Beaver Creek Mountain via Bachelor Gulch by the 1999-2000 ski season, and additional ski trails and lifts on the western hillside, an additional homeowner seat on the Resort Board, and for the first time, homeowner representation on the Design Review Board.
By the 1999-2000 ski season, renegotiations of the initial time limits set for access to the mountain through Bachelor Gulch were taking place. As a result, an amendment to the Beaver Creek Resort Agreement of 1994 was signed on March 1, 2002. This Amendment extended the time for Vail Resorts to construct a second portal through Bachelor Gulch in exchange for upgrading the Westfall Chair Lift, liquidated damages if not completed by 2006, and certain voting concessions to homeowners on the Beaver Creek Resort Board. Currently, these agreements are being implemented.
Other recent accomplishments following the 2002 Agreement include:
- Moving food services from mountain access to a centralized distribution center thereby reducing heavy truck traffic on Village Road;
- Limiting further use of Beaver Creek name for areas or lifts outside Beaver Creek Resort;
- Adding high-speed chair lift to the Larkspur Lift by 2006-2007 ski season.
Protecting the interests of the Beaver Creek Property Owners and ensuring the highest quality of lifestyle for Beaver Creek residents is the ultimate goal of the BCPOA. As a result, the BPCOA has and will continue to be the “watchdog” for Beaver Creek residents and owners.
