BCPOA ANNUAL MEETING – December 28, 2010
Thank you to all the homeowners who attended the Annual Meeting. The speakers included Mike Balk from the Beaver Creek Metro Board, Ceil Folz from the Vail Valley Foundation, Doug Lovell, Beaver Creek’s Chief Operating Officer and Tim Baker from the Beaver Creek Resort Company.
Most questions were directed to Tim Baker on the issue of the Resort Company voting to impose a second Common Assessment on property owners. As far as the BCPOA is concerned, this is a matter that should be still under discussion and we will continue to question the necessity of the second year of the assessment. We have been given access to the Resort Company books back to 2007 by Tim Baker and the Resort Company Board. We welcome this new era of transparency and open communication.
A Wine and Appetizers followed the meeting and most of the approximately 150 attendees stayed and continued discussions with the speakers and BCPOA Board members.
WINTER EVENT – February 10, 2011
The Property Owners Association will assist in underwriting “Spamalot”, a Tony winner for Best Musical, at the Vilar Center. There will be a cocktail before the performance at the May Gallery in the Vilar Center for BCPOA members. An email invitation will be sent out very soon. Get your tickets early because this is sure to be a sell-out even
PARTY IN THE PARK – July 4, 2011
This year’s Annual Picnic will be held on the Fourth of July in Creekside Park. The Beaver Creek Club Board has decided not to allow outside events during the week of the Fourth of July holiday. We are happy to have the opportunity to explore other areas in Beaver Creek and hopefully to introduce homeowners to a really fun venue in Creekside Park. The details are being worked on by Lin Bercher and her Social Committee and you all will receive a Save the Date with more details in March. An invitation will follow.
BEAVER CREEK MOUNTAIN IMPROVEMENTS- Please see attached map
The National Forest Service held an open meeting at the Avon Public Library on January 6, 2011 to discuss proposed on-mountain improvements at the Beaver Creek Resort. These proposed improvements include:
- A new Women’s Downhill Racecourse which would be located to the left of the Birds of Prey Run (looking uphill). This would terminate at the Red Tail Camp finish line.
- A new Women’s Giant Slalom Racecourse which would be located to the right of the Birds of Prey Run (looking uphill). This would terminate at the Red Tail Camp finish line.
- An enlarged finish area. The current finish area can comfortably hold 4,000 attendees. The proposed finish are would provide sufficient facilities and sufficient space to host an additional 4,000 attendees. This would fulfill FIS (International Ski Federation) capacity requirements.
- Modifications of certain areas of the current Birds of Prey downhill race course.
- A new Red Tail Camp Restaurant which would have more indoor seating. The proposal is for a total of 750 indoor/outdoor seats. The current restaurant seats 475 (269 indoor and 206 outdoor).
- Some infrastructure improvements. These include a new water tank which would be necessary for the expanded Red Tail Camp and for improved distribution for fire suppression; a larger storage facility at the top of the Birds of Prey lift to accommodate racecourse storage for the existing men’s course and the proposed women’s courses; and a sewer line from Red Tail Camp to the bottom of Dally where the line joins with the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District line.
I have attached a map that was provided at the meeting.
The White River National Forest is providing a 45 day comment period for the public to submit comments on this project. The period ends January 18, 2011. A number of homeowners attended the open meeting. Tom Allender from Vail Resorts and representatives from the Forest Service answered questions. Mr. Allender said that these proposed projects would be paid for by Vail Resorts and the Vail Valley Foundation. Some of the Environmental Impact Study costs are being paid for by Vail Resorts. Construction and grading would be planned for the summers of 2012 and 2013. That would give the winters of 2013 and 2014 as test times for the courses before the 2015 World Championships. There are no plans to increase summer events at Red Tail Camp after the increase in size. There are a number of studies underway to make it easier for ski in access to events at Red Tail and for easier bus access. The women’s runs when finished would be blacks and double blacks – only for the brave.
We are a strong voice in the community because we have approximately 650 members. We are always on the lookout for new members. TIPS TO PREVENT BEAR INCIDENTS May 08, 2006
Spring time means bears in Colorado are waking up after a winter-long hibernation. They are emerging from their dens on the hunt for food.
Caramie Schnell, in the May 4th (2006) issue of the Vail Trail, offers these suggestions on how to avoid bear problems around your home:
- Take down, clean and put away bird feeders.
- Keep garbage in airtight containers inside your garage or storage area.
- Clean trash cans periodically with ammonia or bleach.
- Use "bear proof" containers
- Place garbage for pick-up outside before collection -- and not the night before.
- Do not leave pet food or dishes outside at night.
- Clean up and store outdoor grills after use. Sticky barbecue sauce and grease can attract bears to your yard.
- Never intentionallly feed bears to attract them to your yard for viewing. It is illegal to feed bears in Colorado.
